Crossbow VirtualWire Demo Tool Available
30 Oct '09 - 18:38 by benrIf you were at or watched the events from CommunityOne this year you saw some nifty demos of Crossbow's "Vwire" capabilities through a graphical demo tool. Today that Virtual Wire Demo Tool is available for download!
Now, personally, I'm not a fan of the tool. GUI's such as this are useful for demonstrating complex system utilities in an executive friendly way... but Crossbow is so easy to use it needs no pretty GUI, using dladm create-vnic and dladm create-etherstub its so simplistic to setup that I fail to see the point.
Never the less! If you are having trouble making a case for the awesome power of Crossbow to your slavemasters this may be just the tool to help you get the message across.
I just tried installing the “vWire” tool; it is something horrible.
First, no package, only “install.ksh”! And no System V package (I’m on SX:CE b124).
Then, the code assumes, incorrectly, that one’s root pool is called “rpool” (mine is NOT called that, but “pool0”). OK, fine, let’s patch the code. Then, the whole thing completely falls apart trying to create a “native brand” zone.
At that point, it was too much to bear. You know how much I hate half-cooked crap. That was it! I was done.
