Dell has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire EqualLogic, a leading provider of high-performance iSCSI storage area network (SAN) solutions uniquely optimized for virtualization. The acquisition will strengthen Dell’s product and channel leadership in simplifying and virtualizing IT for customers globally. iSCSI SAN technology represents the fastest growing part of the storage business.
Michael Dell spoke of a commitment to iSCSI during the launch of the Dell MD3000i (which doesn’t work with Solaris btw) and this shows that they are aware of their weakness and are really going to push in this space. Its also a great sign for customers who really like Equalogic but can’t swallow the astronomical pricing.
Thanks for the note of the MD3000i, I recently starting casually looking at it, good to know it doesn’t do the solaris, since that is where I am hoping to take things
We were recently pricing out the md3000i — the default build doesn’t specify any OS versions other than RHEL4/Suse9 — needless to say this doesn’t mean you can’t use another flavor of linux to target the array. Dell just isn’t openly supporting other platforms right now via their enterprise support. This doesn’t necessarily mean it will not work.
Has anyone actually got the 3000i to work with Solaris?
I have tried and failed
I was on the phone with dell and the representative was very helpful, but the end result is a no go. For whatever reason, disks 0 and 7 work just fine (I was creating each physical disk as a raid0 virtual disk) but all the others can not be opened. After I connect to the target and devfsadm -i iscsi I am unable to add the new disks to zfs, I get garbage and then a cannot open error saying the disk is not labeled. In the format tool, I get the same can’t open meesage and am unable to label the disks.
I couldn’t agree more. I have the same issues with my news site. Right now it’s more of a hobby, but people really do like to have swifter responses. I know I do. We’ve all come to expect immediacy in the hurry-hurry world of today. Dell can certainly afford what you’re suggesting. They can’t afford not to.
Maybe he can sell them to Russia.. Then again, he should buy Apple and give the money back to it’s shareholders first.
HP’s ONE multivendor alliance program is a logical step in adding more data center value for their existing ProCurve customers. Customers, however, must beware as “the devil is in the details” and even more so in “the operational complexity” that can result from trying to take advantage of infrastructure and equipment consolidation without having the supporting IP service integration properly designed and innovated.
Lets hope that the customer support for Equal Logic does not upset their customers

I took my first personal loans when I was very young and that supported my business very much. But, I require the short term loan over again.
Well a great news and I think it will enhance the personality of Del in the market as compare to now.
Dell and Equallogic sounds good and I hope that they should show some wonders now.
Well IT people’s have good hopes while Dell has announced to buy Equallogic now the customer’s have a sharp eye on how Dell is going to make this. Let see. Great article
I really liked your blog quite informative and interesting facts and figures you have discussed on your blog even the comments are very fruitful and helpful in enhancing the knowledge regarding the topic.
If they do acquire it then the Equal Logic will have a different scenario.
