Last night Dr. James Hughes, Solaris CTO, spoke about Indiana. The meeting was less than elegant. Some interesting bits of information come about toward the end, especially concerning contribution to ON, to which his method seem to be to train external contributors over time to Sun’s development method. I also asked a terse open ended question, given that he’s a CTO, “What is the future of Solaris?”. Judge for yourself:
Wow!!! what a rabble!
Perhaps an “agenda” that folks actually stick to would be a good idea for the next one…
I’m rather disappointed in the answers here. Sun seems to be saying, “follow our processes because that’s the only way we can have enterprise level software, or fork the source code.”
I believe that the CTO really does want Solaris to be successful; but I’m not certain the he has a good understanding of how open source projects work.
Jim Hughes is a fucking tard.
