Eighth Wedding Anniversary

Its hard to believe, but Tamarah and I have been married for 8 years. Add our 5 years of dating and we’ve been side-by-side every day for more than 13 years.

We celebrated by having dinner at CIA in Napa and spending the evening at a nearby bed and breakfast, The Chanric Inn, in Calistoga.

This was the first time we’ve spent a night away from our children together, from time to time we get a baby sitter and go out (very rarely, unfortunately) but never for the night. We called too often, but everything went well. They stayed with one of the pastors of our church and it so happens that Nova’s best friend is his daughter, so it was sorta like a sleep-over slumber party for her.

A very relaxing evening I’m glad to say. No busy city, not packed and crammed boring restaurants. Great food, great service, and a quiet, restful night. Gotta love it.

My disclaimer: that’s me in the MORNING before 9am, before makeup and coffee. I’m a little pasty. Don’t hold it against me.

  2. Congrats to both of you. Well done on showing commitment to the kids too, warming to hear that, especially when mostly I hear bad stories about parents dumping their kids in child care centres when they are at their most impressionable. Balance is great.

(my soapbox) Our children are very important to us. I left my profession of teaching and have turned down many jobs that have been offered to me in order to stay home and devote my time to them. I think it is vital that children have a stable home, but even more so that they have a stable mother available to them. We make sure they have outlets for socializing (Sunday school, playdates, etc), but right now it is crucial for them to learn at home. Manners, behavior, how to love. They learn these at home, or in lesser situations, they learn how not to love at home. Ben and I were both from broken homes and we waited a long time before we decided to build a family for ourselves; because we do not want to make the same mistakes our parents made, and have our children suffer. Things aren’t “perfect”…we do have normal kids who are prone to tantrums and attitudes. But as their parent is our duty to discipline and guide them so they will understand how to control their will and urges in a mature and responsible manner.

Thank you for the words of encouragement though :) I’m positive every parent needs to hear those from a third party once in a while, and I definitely appreciate it.

    Congrats on the aniversary.

We spent 4 days in Calistoga on our 5000 mile 3 week roadtrip honeymoon. It’s was a nice quiet town when we were there in July 2005.

Hopefully we will go back. CIA was awsome too.
