The “Science” of Motivation

If your interested in motivation and management, this TED talk is really interesting. Interesting primarily because it says what most of us already know.

What would you prefer? To get paid $80,000 a year in a supportive and fullfilling environment or get paid $100,000 in a dull one where you feel alone?

Brings to mind the IBM Songbook. Keeping employees motivated and esprit de corpse high, while maintaining a balance of order and freedom seems a tough line to walk.

I knew it! I always knew IBM employees were the living dead..

Maybe more like necromancers. Commanding dead technologies to loot hapless businesses of their tech budgets.

Quite aside from supportive/dull I think it’d be grand to stay at the same salary, and instead of getting raises have your work week shortened.

ie, if you double your salary in 10 years normally ( I don’t know if this is the case ), keep the same salary you started with but show up MT & half of W, netting you more of the week to work on what you really want to work on

I think you mean ‘esprit de corps’ and not ‘corpse’ :-)

although I’m sure some people feel your typo is more appropriate for companies like IBM (and now oracle, cough cough)

I tried to think so, but I found it was not as the same in the actual process. As you mentioned, I still have doubts, but really thank you for sharing!

Ugg boots (sometimes referred to as uggs or ug boots) are a style of sheepskin boot, with wool as the inner lining and a tanned outer surface worn by both men and women. Ugg boots often have a synthetic sole, although this is not universal. Uggs have been identified as a fashion trend for men and women since the early 2000s. In late 2008, Ugg boots grew again in popularity with men as male celebrities were seen in them.

Shit, hi has found out how Sweden worked from the 1950:th and on!
High salary is not all, 6 weeks of vacation a year. To be able to stay home when sick with 80% salary. General health care, no need to pay some health insurance yourself. Father and mothers shareing and being able to stay home (80% salary) with the kids 1,5 year each etc makes staff perform better.
